STARKVILLE, Miss. – Seed maturation and harvest management will be two of many topics covered at this year’s MSU Seed Technology Short Course.

The Mississippi State University Extension Service and Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station invite seed industry professionals, producers, and crop consultants to attend the 2019 Seed Technology Short Course scheduled for August 13-14 at the Bost Extension Center on the campus of MSU.

The theme of this year’s course is “From Field to Bin”.  Participants will learn about harvest machinery settings and calibration, post-harvest handling, principles of seed drying, bulk storage systems, seed damage, post-harvest storage pest management, grain bin safety, and rescue techniques for grain bin entrapment. Presenters will also discuss seed certification, sampling and grading, seed blends for pollinators, seed quality evaluation and testing, and state and federal laws associated with seed labeling and tracking.

The $100 registration fee covers the short course lecture sessions, printed materials, demonstrations, breakfast and lunch each day, and a dinner/social after the first day.  Pre-registration for the course is encouraged.
